About the Conference
The 11th Annual Conference of the Association for Reading and Writing in Asia (ARWA 2027) will take place on March 6 and 7, 2027, at Tohoku University’s Kawauchi Campus in Sendai, Japan.
The conference will provide an interactive platform for academics, researchers, practitioners, and students to share their research and exchange ideas concerning reading and writing across languages and writing systems.
Presentations will address a broad range of topics related to literacy development, reading and writing processes, literacy difficulties and impairments, and skilled language processing. We welcome submissions from relevant fields, including psychology, education, linguistics, cognitive science, neuroscience, and related disciplines.

Conference Activities
The two-day conference will feature the following presentation formats:
Keynote Sessions
The conference will feature keynote presentations by Dr. Penny Pexman and Dr. Taeko Wydell. Each keynote session will include time for questions and discussion. More information will be added as it becomes available.
Oral Presentations
Each oral presentation will be allocated 20 minutes, including time for questions and discussion.
Poster Presentations
Poster sessions provide an opportunity for presenters to discuss their research informally and in depth with conference participants. Submissions from both established and early-career researchers are warmly welcomed.
Symposia
A symposium provides an opportunity to examine a specific topic in depth or from several complementary perspectives. Each symposium should be organized by a chair and normally include three or four 15-minute presentations, each followed by 5 minutes of audience discussion.
