HOW TO GET TO JEJU ISLAND

Jeju International Airport is conveniently located at the center of East Asia and is easily accessible from China, Japan, and Southeast Asia. The airport currently services 19 direct international flights and 11 domestic flights. Choose the one that suits you best and begin your journey to Jeju Island!

  • Direct International Flights to Jeju

    • There are numerous flights between Jeju and 16 different cities in China, Hongkong, Japan, Singapore, and Taiwan.

International flights

  • Transfer via Major Hub Airports

    • Visitors from countries without direct flights may easily travel to Jeju through major airports such as those in Osaka, Beijing, and Shanghai.

  • Transfer via Incheon International Airport

    • When you fly into Incheon International Airport in Korea, you have to transfer to a local airport called Gimpo International Airport, where you can take an airplane to Jeju. In this case, you have to go through immigration at Incheon Airport, find your luggage, and move to Gimpo Airport with your luggage. Since Gimpo Airport is almost a local airport and you will be flying a local airline, the limit of luggage sent by plane is one 15-20kg bag. Roughly speaking, it would take about 4 hours from Incheon Airport to Jeju Airport: It would take about 1 hour to pass the immigration and find luggage from Incheon International Airport, 1 hour from Incheon International Airport to Gimpo Airport, and 2 hours for the process in Gimpo Airport including a one-hour flight from Incheon and Jeju.

    • To get to Gimpo Airport from Incheon, you can take a shuttle bus or subway. If you take a shuttle bus, it takes approximately 30-40 minutes, and it runs every 5 minutes. If you take a subway called the Airport Railroad, it takes about an hour from Incheon Airport to Gimpo Airport (see the picture below).

  • If you see the sign below near the Airport Terminal station, you should take the All-Stop Train on the left, not the express train.

  • Visa-Free Entry

    • Visa-free Entry to Jeju: 180 Countries. (Only 11 countries are required to apply for a visa: Afghanistan, Cuba, Ghana, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Nigeria, Macedonia, Palestine, Sudan, and Syria)

    • Duration of stay: Up to 30 days

    • Conditions of entry: Those that arrive directly into Jeju Island by flights or ships.

HOW TO GET TO YOUR HOTEL FROM JEJU AIRPORT

Jeju Airport is small. You can go to the taxi stand from Jeju Airport and take a taxi to the Hotel Nanta or your hotel. It would take about 20 minutes to get to Hotel Nanta and the fare is about KRW 10,000 (US$ 7-8). In the case of Hotel nanta, it says /nan.ta.ho.tel/ in Korean. It is written as 난타 호텔 in Korean Hangul.

HOW TO GET TO THE CONFERENCE VENUE

  • Jeju National University is situated slightly outside from the center of the city, nestled in the middle of Mt. Halla. It takes about 30-40 mins from the center of the downtown, an easy accessible place connected by public buses or taxies.

  • For any car-renters, we will provide you with free parking tickets. You can drive into the campus of Jeju National University and park your rental car near the conference venue in the parking lot.

ACCOMMODATION

Please notice that Jeju Island is one of the most popular and touristic cities in Korea, so we recommend to book the hotel as soon as possible in order to avoid availability issues. In general, any hotels in downtown Jeju will be fine. However, hotels in far remote places may not be appropriate because it gets dark after sunset in Jeju. Many shops close at night, and there are not as many lights in Jeju at night as in Seoul.

The following is the list that we may consider your accommodation options.

1. Hotel Nanta: http://www.hotelnanta.com/en/

Hotel Nanta is subject to conference discount prices. There are two circulating buses about once an hour each: Bus # 441 is convenient from Hotel Nanta to the Jeju downtown, and bus # 442 from downtown to Hotel Nanta. It takes about 30 minutes. You can see the timetable of the buses here. It is recommended to take a taxi when moving between Hotel Nanta and downtown Jeju. During conference days, buses will run between Hotel Nanta and the conference hall.

For those who would like to reserve a room at Nanta Hotel with a conference discount, please fill out the attached form below and send it to the hotel by email to front@hotelnanta.com.

WEATHER AND CLOTHES

In early March, Jeju Island may occasionally have snow or rain, so both winter jackets and lighter clothings are recommended.

HOW TO USE OF CASH OR CREDIT CARDS

It's better to pay in Korean money in a taxi. Foreign cards may or may not work in taxis, depending on the credit card processing networks. It would be safe to have some Korean currency in hand to use it as a taxi fare, as well as places like local Korean markets that only accept cash. However, many stores and restaurants in Korea accept cards, since most Koreans use cards these days. Mastercard and Visa are widely accepted in Korea, while American Express may not be as readily accepted.

HOW TO CALL A TAXI

There is no Uber in Korea. Instead, there is a Kakao Taxi, and you can download and open the Kakao Taxi app on your phone. See a latest Website on how foreigners take Kakao Taxis in Korea (e.g., https://inmykorea.com/kakao-taxi-without-korean-phone-number/.) It is also easy to find a taxi in downtown Jeju.  The hotel front desk will help you call a taxi.

HOW TO PURCHASE A TRANSPORTATION CARD FOR A BUS RIDE

You need a transportation card to take the bus. You can easily buy it at a nearby store. You can ride it about six times with a KRW 10,000 won card. Remember to touch the transportation card on the bus machine when getting on and off.

HOW TO RENT A CAR

You can also rent a car. Documentations required: International driver's license, Passport. Note that the name of the passport must be the same as the name of the credit card. It is also recommended to buy insurance when renting a car.
